Social networking has made connecting with people – anywhere in the world – as simple as logging on to Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn. But these connections, without followup, are superficial and it’s often difficult to really break out of your own circles of friends and colleagues.
Professional introductions service, By/Association, aims to help people develop deeper and more diverse connections by reinventing the idea of networking.
Although in their reinventing, the idea looks like a very retropreneurial cross between a pre-internet introductions agency (albeit for business), curated network and a private members club.

Membership of By/Association is via a detailed application form (or being vouched for by a current member). Members can then organise or attend small meetups hosted by other members.
The hope is to spawn interesting introductions, by bringing diverse groups of ‘innovative, dynamic’ people and ideas together. By/Association acts as kind of matchmaker and curator in this process.
