Tagging Your Kids

Keeping track of kids in busy public spaces can be a nightmare.

Speaking as someone who was once a child himself, it’s far more fun to do a little exploring on your own than be chained to mom and dad – which means slipping the reins any chance you get. Leading inevitably to panicked parents.

Irish company Kidspotter works with amusement parks, shopping centres and other high footfall locations to provide location aware tech to keep an eye on wandering youngsters.

Parents can rent a wearable monitor (like a big wristwatch) to attatch to their kids. Using the internet or mobile device, parents can then see where their little ones have wandred off to (based on grid system on a printed map).

There is also a ‘help’ button that the child can press in an emergency and pre-set alerts to warn if the child wanders into a dangerous area.

Based on customer requests, the company is also rolling out ‘Kidspotter Everyday’ – a home use version which will run on a subscription model.
