Two business models often stand out as favourites for web entrepreneurs – selling services in an eBay-stylee and cracking the local advertising market. Some of the solutions may be quite slick but most struggle to catch on outside of their own cities and regions.
MyCubi.com is a new site that combines both ideas in an attempt to create an eBay for local services.
Service providers from dog walkers to house painters can create a “Cubi” – a free web page detailing what they offer – to market their services. If someone requests those services in their area, they can then bid on those jobs.
For people searching to get jobs done, a “CubiCall” is a simple quote request which is sent out to relevant suppliers in your area.
Slick delivery and plenty of nice functionality (neighborhood maps and bartering options in particular are nice touches) places MyCubi.com ahead of most offerings of this type – but as always, the chicken and egg of getting enough users to attract enough service providers (and vice versa) will be the challenge.
