The NHS in Hounslow is using a combination of the internet and text messaging to encourage young people to be screened for sexually transmitted diseases like chlamydia.
The idea is simple enough; teens can visit the NHS website and request a home testing kit. They send their samples directly to the laboratory and the results are made available via SMS.
The idea is obviously to remove some of the embarrassment associated with STD testing – thereby encouraging more people to get tested. Where else could this simple idea be applied?
