innovative business idea: college hunks hauling junk

Sometimes what makes a business innovative has nothing to do with invention or new business models – sometimes it’s the packaging.

In a little over three years, College Hunks Hauling Junk has gone from 2 guys and a van to a year-round, multi-million dollar, franchised business that has featured on everything from Oprah.com to Fortune Small Business magazine.

The company provides junk removal (for disposal, donation or recycling) for both residential and commercial properties and is staffed by local college students from its various markets.

Junk removal isn’t normally associated with creativity and innovation – which is the point really. A standout name, strong concept and eye-catching branding have helped transform a summer job into a thriving business. They’ve brought clean cut personality to a faceless, dirty industry.

What other industries could do with a bit of a creative branding makeover?

That’s so incredible! We don’t have them here, i went and looked them up in San Diego a few days ago and couldn’t find them. I had some old furniture and boxes in my garage! Fortunately i came across a company called Green Junk Machine, they were great, same deal with a green image! So awesome to see so many companies putting spins on things and doing well for themselves! :p
