Choose Your Own Naughty Adventure

Back when I was a young lad I used to love the Choose Your Own Adventure series. Each book featured multiple story lines and endings and based on your choices you would either accomplish your adventure or fail / die.

As a not-quite-so-young-anymore lad I might be tempted by a slightly more risque kind of personal adventure novel.

UStar Novels produce personalized erotic tales featuring you and your partner. Visitors to the site can choose from a selection of romance novels and then provide their personal details (names, eye color, favorite food etc…). The books are then printed on demand with these details woven into the storyline.

Each personalized book costs around £27 and there are both straight and same sex books available. Plus, if you happen to be sans partner (or think you can get away with it) you can always substitute in a celebrity – or anyone else for that matter:

“… you can enjoy our novels too with your favourite celebrity as the star. So if you fancy licking chocolate ice cream off Brad Pitt’s chest or rescuing Paris Hilton from a flaming inferno, their names can be substituted when ordering.”

OK.

Anyway, personalization has been popular in children’s books for years but this is one of the first examples of it being used in books designed for adults.

With customization a huge trend in everything from fashion to phones – and print on demand more economical and easy than ever – we’d expect to see more smart ideas like this.

Has personalisation gone too far? I don’t think so.

This is a great example of just how personal your product could get. Not sure about the content, but it’s a fantastic concept. As you say, it’s been around for a while in kids books, so why not. It shows how a similar niche (in a different market) can provide great business inspiration.
