Francophiles across Britain will be hurriedly reaching for their credit cards with the launch of the first TV channel devoted exclusively to French cinema.

Cinemoi (who deserve recognition for their name alone) show a combination of classic French cinema, current movies and interviews with French filmmakers.

The subscription based channel has teamed up with French cinema curator Julien Plante and pride themselves on their passion for French film. Each month the channel promises to deliver 30 new films – good value for any cinema lovers at £9.99 a month (or £100 a year).

Two decades of cable and satellite TV have produced an almost unlimited number of niche channels, catering to just about every possibly taste and topic. Going forward, the near 90% penetration of digital TV in the UK – coupled with the enormous rise in online video – looks set to produce even nichier niches.

The lesson? Go niche or go home.
