Edun Live: Ethical Tees

Edun Live is less a t-shirt company and more of a socioeconomic mission that happens to make t-shirts.

Founded by Ali Hewson and U2 favorite Bono, the company sells organic and cotton t-shirts that are made ‘in Africa by Africans’ using a ‘grew to sew’ model.

Everything from the planting of the cotton to finishing details is done in sub-Saharan Africa – leading not only to more jobs but also the transfer of skills and the development of an indigenous textiles industry.

We make t-shirts that support sustainable socioeconomic development. Put simply, that means that when you buy one of our shirts, you help us to employ people in Africa who might otherwise be unemployed. We work with disenfranchised African citizens, teaching them to grow cotton, sew, and participate in the textile business.

Edun Live is not a charity, it is a for profit company with a strong mission – the more tees they can sell, the more sustainable, well-paid jobs they create. On that point, the company sells direct via its website, encourages bulk sales and enters into selected joint ventures and partnerships.

A great template for others to follow.
