Threadless has been using crowdsourcing for some time to come up with cool t-shirts – and build a dynamic, engaged community (and ready-made market) at the same time. In doing so it’s become one of the biggest (the biggest?) t-shirt sites on the web.
So, what other kinds of products could this model be extended to?
Well, Foldees has decided to give crowdsourced greetings cards a go. Like Threadless, they run regular competitions to attract designs from the public. Approved designs are then uploaded to the site to be voted on by visitors – the one with the most votes wins.
The cards themselves cost $2 + postage and can be bought blank, customized with a personal message or (soon) downloaded. A royalty is paid to the original designer for every card purchased.
