Making the most of underused resources is key in a difficult economy. For example, plenty of established businesses have unused or underused office space that’s simply costing them money.

At the same time, there are scores of startup businesses in need of work space – but who are unable or unwilling to shell out the big bucks or commit to long term leases.

Enter 11 Square Feet.

11 Square Feet is a marketplace for businesses to list unused space which they are willing to rent out:

a real estate listing service for micro-spaces; any small office or workspace such as individual desks, small office spaces, artists studios, garages, that kind of thing.

For around $5 a month, businesses can list their unused space. Those in need of space can either search the listings based on their criteria (location, size, budget) or set up alerts to notify them of space as it becomes available.

US-focused at present, this is certainly an idea crying out to be replicated in other countries or for smart estate agents to partner with.
