Foodzie – Marketplace for Artisan Foods

In a similar way that Etsy gave artisan crafters a ready made marketplace, Foodzie.com is doing the same for artisan food producers – think of it as a big virtual farmer’s market.

Foodzie asks that the sellers on the site meet a few criteria including a commitment to quality, that they are small producers and (understandably) that they are food related.

In return (and for a profit), Foodzie provide the marketplace and do the legwork:

We handle all the nitty gritty e-commerce stuff, like handling credit card transactions, tax calculation and shipping charges. We then pass the order along to you and you drop ship your freshly made product to the customer.

This is an idea that’s crying out to be replicated in other countries and tweaked for other niches. Think marketplaces for micro-brewers in the UK or budding fashion designers in NYC.
